California Considers $2 Billion Housing Plan

The February 21, 2018 article in the East Bay Times starts “Responding to pleas from 11 big city mayors grappling with the alarming rise of homelessness, California lawmakers on Wednesday announced two proposals that would devote over half of the state‚Äôs $6.1 billion budget surplus to the crisis.”

We see the effects of homelessness every day in our work at South Hayward Parish, and we would be thrilled to see the state legislature to create programs to provide real solutions. Allocating funds is a start, but programs need to be carefully designed to ensure that the bulk of the resources actually get to the communities that need them. We recommend that our members and the supporting community contact their legislators and urge them to support these efforts.
